Welcoming Director John Viars
Taking over the director’s chair for the 2026 fall production is veteran director John Viars.
Viars brings decades of experience in community theatre leadership to the community. He spent 47 years at the helm of the Des Moines Community Playhouse, where the main stage was named the John Viars Theatre in his honor.
During his tenure in Iowa, he directed hundreds of productions, spanning comedies, musicals, and dramas. Nationally, Viars has served as president of the American Association of Community Theatre (AACT) and has spent his career mentoring actors and production teams.
Known for his collaborative spirit, warmth, and knack for bringing out the absolute best in both novice and experienced actors, Viars is eager to dive into rehearsals at Heritage Ranch and bring storytelling to life. Viars will oversee auditions, rehearsals, and staging for the fall show.
Community members interested in acting or assisting with production are encouraged to attend auditions and join the crew.
